Popcorn Frights Film Festival presents the very best genre films from across the world as it celebrates the art of horror. Featuring over 40 film premieres from 8 countries, special guests, and live DJ sets inspired by iconic horror film music, this year’s Popcorn Frights promises more thrills than ever before as it rages through Miami from August 11-17.
The night begins with the feature film “It Stains the Sands Red” preceded by the short film “The Tickle Monster” at 7pm.
FLORIDA PREMIERE! The zombie apocalypse heats up in a gruesome zombie love story that will tear your guts out. A troubled woman from Las Vegas finds herself stranded in the desert with a ravenous zombie on her trail. At first, she’s easily able to outpace her undead pursuer, but things quickly become a nightmare when she realizes the zombie doesn’t need to ever stop for rest. Running low on supplies and beat down by the harsh environment, she has to summon the strength she never knew she had to ultimately face both the zombie and the demons that have chased her all her life.
Producer Brandon Christensen will be in attendance to introduce the film and participate in a Q&A!
FLORIDA PREMIERE! A quiet night in for an aspiring grime artist and his girlfriend takes a dark turn when she reveals her room is haunted by the tickle monster.

The night kicks off with the feature film “The Bride” preceded by the short film “Savor” at 7pm.
NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE! Imagine Get Out as directed by Guillermo Del Toro and you’ll just get a taste of this darkly gothic nightmare. A young woman travels with her soon-to-be husband to his family home in the outskirts. She grows increasingly suspicious of his family and their creepy neighbors’ strange behavior and realizes the visit may have been a horrible mistake. In short time, sheer psychological terror overwhelms her as she starts witnessing terrifying visions as his family prepares her for a mysterious ritual ceremony.
FLORIDA PREMIERE. A man discovers the horrors of dinning alone.
Next up is the feature film “The Hatred” preceded by the short film “Hush” at 9pm.
NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE! From the producer of Halloween comes the terrifying new feature centering on four young women who travel to their college professor’s new country home for a weekend getaway, only to discover that the house has a malevolent past. Featuring Andrew Divoff (Wes Craven’s Wishmaster), David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London), and Amanda Wyss (A Nightmare on Elm Street).
Director Michael G. Kehoe will be in attendance to introduce the film and participate in an extended Q&A afterward.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION! A young college graduate babysits an 8-year-old girl during a terrible storm, only to realize their house is possessed by a malevolent entity.
The festival concludes with the feature film “Dead Shack” preceded by the short film “The Cleansing Hour” at 11:30pm.
US PREMIERE! Goonies meets Evil Dead and Dead Alive in this fresh horror comedy starring Lauren Holly (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Dumb and Dumber). What happens when three kids on a weekend getaway are holed up at a run-down cottage in the woods and must save their hard-partying parents from a shotgun-totting psycho who wants to feed them to her slavering zombie? They must arm themselves, toughen up, learn to work together, and bash in zombie skulls or else they’ll end up on their freak-of-a-neighbor’s next family dinner.
FLORIDA PREMIERE! Two failed filmmakers have found success running a webcast that streams live exorcisms. However, every episode is an elaborately staged hoax, created to dupe their global audience. But, when their latest subject turns out to actually be demon-possessed, they are forced to reckon with their charade live in front of millions of viewers.
