Shriekfest Film Festival to Screen Andrew Getty’s The Evil Within, Starring Sean Patrick Flannery and Michael Berryman
The annual Los Angeles competition will kick off with an opening night gala October 5
The Shriekfest Film Festival, an international horror/sci-fi film and screenplay competition, has announced its 2017 finalists and is slated to screen the supernatural horror film The Evil Within, starring Sean Patrick Flannery (Boondock Saints, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter) and the horror icon Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, The Devi’s Rejects, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest). Frederick Koehler (Mr. Mom, Kate & Alley) and Dina Meyer (Starship Troopers, Saw, Beverly Hills, 90210) also star.
In the film, a lonely, mentally handicapped boy befriends his reflection in an antique mirror, but discovers the other “boy” is a demonic creature who orders him to go on a murderous rampage to kill the people he loves most.
Andrew Getty, grandson of J. Paul Getty and the director of the film, spent 15 years and an estimated $4 to 6 million of his own fortune creating the movie, but never got to see its completion; he passed away in 2015 before the film was finished. For Getty, The Evil Within was a passion project created from memories of his own nightmares, and he meticulously crafted the scenes, often doing the special effects himself. In addition to The Evil Within, Shriekfest will also screen more than 30 outstanding and diverse international short films, covering just about every aspect of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy.
The Shriekfest Film Festival runs October 5 – 8, 2017. The public is invited to an opening night party at Boardners/Club Sinister in Hollywood; all are also welcome to attend the screenings at the iconic Raleigh Studios on Melrose Blvd.
Shriekfest, now in its 17th year, was created in July 2001 by Denise Gossett and has grown into the longest-running and one of the largest horror and sci-fi film festivals in the country. Shriekfest is bi-coastal this year as well, with Shriekfest Orlando kicking off on October 21.
Since its inception, Shriekfest has offered young and upcoming writers, actors and producers a chance to have their work screened and rated by peers.
