Second Self Presents The Men Who Made Frankenstein At Etcetera Theatre (Camden Fringe 2018)

Whose bodies were used to create Frankenstein’s monster?

1791: Edward and Margaret are condemned to hang. The trapdoors open, the ropes snap tight, and they wake, horrified but alive. Now they’re trapped in Dr. Frankenstein’s cells, and their debt for rescue is due. The payment: healthy flesh, ripe for transplant!

Celebrating 200 years since Shelley completed Frankenstein, Second Self’s daring show dissects how people value their own, and others’ lives. The Men Who Made Frankenstein looks at part of the novel rarely investigated. Who had to die so that Frankenstein’s creature could live?

Second Self is an ensemble of artists who specialise in exploring social issues sidelined by mainstream culture. We engage audiences in social commentary by adapting and retelling known stories in unconventional ways. As such, we create bold, eye-opening theatre, encouraging audiences to think about how they see the world. Our shows discuss what it is to be human in ways that everybody can relate to.
