Popcorn Frights Film Festival is Southeast US’s largest genre film event presenting the very best genre films from across the world as it celebrates the art of horror. Popcorn Frights prides itself on premiering films from emerging and established filmmakers enabling the industry and general audiences to experience the power of storytelling through genre film. The fourth annual Popcorn Frights Film Festival occurs August 10-16, 2018 at the historic Savor Cinema in Fort Lauderdale, a state-of-the-art theater that in the 1940’s was a Methodist Church.

FLORIDA PREMIERE. In one of the most imaginative and award-winning features of the year, a young girl with a missing mother joins a band of street misfits in an effort to survive amidst rampant cartel violence in modern-day Mexico City. Populated with fairytale imagery, Tigers Are Not Afraid is at turns harshly real and terrifyingly surreal, reminiscent of films like Guillermo del Toro’s The Devil’s Backbone and City of God as it details a tragic and engulfing nightmare.

EAST COAST PREMIERE. Horror film impresario Darren Lynn Bousman, director of Saw II, III and IV, Popcorn Frights 2016 film Abattoir, modern experiments Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Devil’s Carnival, brings to life his latest vision, a period piece concerning a troubled woman running from her past who finds herself kept hostage by a coven of vicious nuns. What first starts out as the perfect place to have a child for Agatha turns into a dark layer where silence is forced, ghastly secrets are masked, and every bit of willpower she has is tested as she learns the sick and twisted truth of the convent and the odd people that lurk inside its halls.

SOCKMONSTER (Directed by Wesley Alley): A young mother deals with the loss of her young daughter but refuses to give up on her. As she searches for her, she finds something much worse and soon discovers where socks go when they go missing in the dryer.

But then the night begins to fall… With echoes of The Shape of Water, Splice, and I Am Legend, Cold Skin is the most ambitious and staggeringly imaginative work to date from Xavier Gens (Frontiere(s), The Divide) that explores the chilling question: How much horror can the human heart endure?
