Glasgow Horror Fest has been created in 2015 by Popcorn Horror, a Glasgow based collective of horror fans and creators. Since then, the festival has been part of the Glasgow Halloween calendar, and became an unmissable event for horror film and Halloween lovers. The event will screen the anticipated premiere of ‘Matriarch’, a terrifying Scottish film created by ex ‘River City’ actor Scott Vickers. Having received incredible reviews and securing US distribution, the cast and crew will be hosting a Q&A following the first ever public screening of the film in its home country.

Glasgow Horror Fest brings together all the best parts of the Halloween season, and find a middle ground between traditional film festivals and Comic Con style fan conventions. Film fans can expect, alongside ‘Matriarch’, a screening of Vincent Price classic ‘House on Haunted Hill’ presented in ‘EMERGO’. Director William Castle notoriously livened up his cheesy horror films with live stunts, including ‘EMERGO’ – where a ghoul would ‘fly off the screen and soar into the audience’. The effect will be recreated for a one off screening of this fun, campy Halloween classic. Also, on the film line-up is Jeremy Herbert’s chilling film ‘The Childish Thing’ and a selection of ground-breaking feature and short films.

Popcorn Horror is also keen to support young filmmakers as several student films have screened at Glasgow Horror Fest in previous years. This year, we have partnered with Scare Scotland – experts in live scares, and Neon Frights – who have overseen the film selections and will be presenting the Neon Frights Award for best horror feature films.

However, there is more to Halloween than scary films. The entire bottom floor of the festival is a dedicated convention hub with horror and Halloween vendors, artists, retro horror video games from R-CADE, book/comic shop, buskers, freak shows by Plague City, and the opportunity to interact with practical FX live monsters and mermaids for unique photo opportunities. In the main festival area, the stage will also be haunted by demonic burlesque from Roxy Sparks, live horror shows, an original horror musical, gore and special effects demonstrations, guest speakers on topics including sleep paralysis and horror gaming history, and a range of horror industry panels and Q&As.

We also prepared a one-night-only escape room experience inspired by 80s horror films. ‘The House With Neon Windows’, created in partnership with Scare Scotland, challenges teams of guests to solve thirteen murder mysteries to escape a mysterious 80s Halloween party from which no one has returned alive. The unique experience will feature a live soundscape featuring brand new music by Ancient Order of the Droids, DJ’d by Mr. Naga of Lunacy/Rush and a horror host keen to ensure no one leaves his party alive!

Tickets for Glasgow Horror Fest are available through Eventbrite. Popcorn Horror is pleased to offer students a 20% discount on all tickets using the code ‘ILOVEHORROR’.
