PROMOTEHORROR.COM – A YEAR IN REVIEW

Before the 2019 promotions begin, we thought we would take a quick look back at 2018! First, we would like to thank everyone who gave us the opportunity to promote their work. You worked hard to bring your work to the horror community, and we were honored to help you do that! We would also like to thank everyone in the horror community who took the time to check out the promotions. And of course a thank you to anyone who helped us spread the horror by retweeting, reposting, and/or sharing our promotions in any way! It means a lot to us, but even more to these terrific creators of horror we promoted!

We’ve always said authors have paved the way here, and they did it again in 2018! We did over 50 featured book promotions with books about vampires, werewolves, mystery, murder, and even a little history! We’re proud to have the opportunity to do multiple promotions for authors like Lee Mountford, and Ellie Douglas! If you love to read horror, we definitely gave you a lot to pick from in 2018!

Almost every week we bring you news about films through press releases and our horror headlines, but we’re always happy when we get to do our own promotions for them! We got to promote dozens films, showcasing trailers, stills, and of course where you can watch them! Also, almost every Sunday in 2018 brought horror fans a Sunday Scares feature. It’s one of our longest traditions on the site, and definitely one of our favorites!

Besides books and films, we were pleased to bring horror fans promotions of podcasts, crowdfunding campaigns, web series, blog/sites, music, stores, and even horror themed Christmas cards! We had tons of fun promoting the game “Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle.” Anything featuring horror icon Jason makes it easy and well worth promoting! We held the first major contest of our own, which was for SFX makeup artists. We ended up awarding 5 awesome promotions to some talented artist!

Film festivals and conventions are big events, and easily become our bigger promotions of the year. Our continued sponsorship of the Popcorn Frights Film Festival always leads to a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. We covered them from looking for film submissions and sponsors, to all the festival’s showings and details. The hard work paid off as we got to see over 40 featured films, and even got to interview Andre Gower about “Wolfman’s Got Nards.” We also did a multi-month promotion for Fannibal Fest in Toronto. It’s such a pleasure to help promote an event that’s so focused at serving such a specific fan base.

October is obviously one of our busiest times of the year, but this year was extra special. Besides keeping up with all the promotions and usual Halloween madness, we took PromoteHorror.com international to check out Day of the Dead in Mexico. What amazing sites we saw, and we were proud to be able to bring horror fans a glimpse of some of the action both here and on our blog, HorrO’s Gory Reviews!

Now we’re not sure about going international again, but we’ve already started making plans for 2019! Of course we will be led by our promotions, which we’re experimenting with to make them, and how we go about sharing them better. We want to try to bring more to horror fans 2019, so we will be doing more contests for merchandise, and DVDs. For fans in our local area, we will continue to have screening passes starting with some for “Glass.” The SFX Makeup Contest will return, and we’ll see what else we can come up with. So stay tuned for what’s to come in 2019! You never know what we will be promoting, and again a big thanks to everyone in the horror community!
