Women in Horror Month Interview with Author Ravennight

As you may know, February is “Women in Horror” month. To celebrate, PromoteHorror.com asked women from different professions if they would like to answer some questions about being a “Woman in Horror,” and more. One of those women, who was kind enough to answer our questions, was author, and screen writer Ravennight. Lets see what she said about being a “Woman in Horror”…

-PH: When did you first become a horror fan?

-Ravennight: I was very young. My mother and grandmother were big horror fans. I really took to the short story horror shows. Night gallery, Tales from the darkside, tales from the crypt, Hitchcock, Twilight zone etc.

-PH: Was there a specific moment when you realized that you wanted to go from being a fan of horror to a woman who contributes to the genre, or did it just kind of happen naturally?

-Ravennight: I first felt that roller coaster thrill effect, after I saw the original poltergeist. Especially that bathroom scene! I knew I wanted to scare people. I told my mother and she gave me this awesome cast iron typewriter and so it began.

-PH: What does having a “Women in Horror” month mean to you?

-Ravennight: Recognition and honor. Like we all won an award. Like someone stopped and said ” I know you are working hard to give people nightmares, I see you ladies.” It’s also a great time to recognize your sinister sisters are. Whether you are seasoned or fresh off the bus. Most of the greatest women I have met, work within the horror genre. Not just their talent, but with personalities that also make them shine.

-PH: Is there a woman in horror who you consider a role model?

-Ravennight: This is not an easy one to answer. It’s like trying to break it down to a favorite song or movie. I will say that I have a lot of admiration for the soska sisters. With no hellavator pun intended, I personally feel they took it to the next level.

-PH: How do you think the role of women in horror has changed over the years?

-Ravennight: There has always been great women in horror, As there always will be. The archaic belief that we can’t scare the hell out of you too, well, think that’s been proven already.

-PH: What do you think the future holds for women in horror?

-Ravennight: Boundless opportunities. The only restrictions I for see, would only what we put upon ourselves.

-PH: If you could serve a role in horror that you’ve never done, what would it be?

-Ravennight: I would like to direct.

-PH: Who is your favorite final girl, and favorite female villain?

-Ravennight: Hands down Jamie lee curtis. My favorite female villian will always be mary shaw 100%

-PH: Being that this is PromoteHorror.com, please feel free to plug your current/next horror project.
