Women in Horror Month Interview with Author Ellie Douglas

As you may know, February is “Women in Horror” month. To celebrate, PromoteHorror.com asked women from different professions if they would like to answer some questions about being a “Woman in Horror,” and more. One of those women, who was kind enough to answer our questions, was author Ellie Douglas. Lets see what she said about being a “Woman in Horror”…

-PH: When did you first become a horror fan?

-Ellie: I would have to say it was while I was inside the womb… lol Just kidding. I started watching horrors on the sneak, when I was just a little girl. Something about the thrill of being utterly terrified sparked my love of horror.

-PH: Was there a specific moment when you realized that you wanted to go from being a fan of horror to a woman who contributes to the genre, or did it just kind of happen naturally?

-Ellie: I’d say for me, it happened very naturally. When I decided to write, the only thing that poured onto the pages was horror.

-PH: What does having a “Women in Horror” month mean to you?

-Ellie: I think it’s an amazing way to be recognized. A lot of times, my books have caused readers to be very surprised to discover that it was a woman behind all that gore, terror and horror.

Known for roles in, Horizon Kaleidoscope Man, as Lt. The Antwerp Dolls Deadman Apocalypse The Barge People Escape from Cannibal Farm So many more. Follow her and be inspired.

-PH: Is there a woman in horror who you consider a role model?

-Ellie: My very talented friend Kate Davies Speak, is an out of this world horror actress. She inspires me. @KateDaviesSpeak

-PH: How do you think the role of women in horror has changed over the years?

-Ellie: It is slowly but surely developing. More and more women are being accepted and looked at equally to those of the men in the industry. I also think it has allowed woman to really come out and show the world what they have to offer. From writing, acting, and all creatives, being a woman in horror is awesome.

-PH: If you could serve a role in horror that you’ve never done, what would it be?

-Ellie: I’d love to play the female equivalent to Mick Taylor played by John Jarratt from Wolf Creek. To do all that he did in that role but as a woman, it would be epic!

-PH: Who is your favorite final girl, and favorite female villain?

-Ellie:
Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) Aliens, would be my final girl choice.

Annie Wilkes – Misery, would be one of my favorite female villains.

-PH: Being that this is PromoteHorror.com, please feel free to plug your current/next horror project.

-Ellie: Current project a new release as of Halloween just gone, is my latest novel of short stories.
