To help celebrate the release of the film, we got the honor to talk to one of the film’s stars, Mark Ashworth. The British-born actor has worked in film’s like “The Magnificent Seven,” “Lawless,” “Grape Soda,” and a lot more. One of the first things he revealed was how he found out from director/writer Jason DeVan that this sequel was happening during the shooting of “Along Came the Devil…”

“He looks over at me doing a fist in the air. He pointed at me and he put almost like a peace sign in the air. He was mouthing something, and I was like “what?” He said “two, two! You’re in two!” Pointing at me. I was like “oh cool man!” You know we are shooting the first one here, and it’s an indie so you never know. Some indies get made, some don’t. But he was like “number two,” and I took it like a compliment that he liked the work that I did. I didn’t think anything of it until I guess it was last year November/December I got a call from my agent. She was super excited that she had just spoken to Jason and Heather, and that they had the second script. They wanted me to read it. I am coming back as Jordan and Ashley’s father, and it’s a much bigger role for me in the series…”

Mark goes on to set up the story in the sequel, and where it picks ups with his character. He describes how his character is trying to make up for things he’s done in the past, and how he just wants to be there for his daughter. We asked him to talk a little more about his character’s struggles, and how he tried to convey that to the audience…

“When I was in my deepest, darkest moments of struggle I wanted the audience to know that I hadn’t given up yet. I wasn’t quite there. And that was internal for me. I hadn’t really spoken to Jason other than the fact that I needed to show struggle and remorse throughout. I couldn’t just give in. You can’t just give in, and this be a bad force. You can’t just be evil. I want to tie the human to it cause that my true life as I said…”

He also mentioned how great it was to work with Jason, and how Jason made it easy for him to go down that road with his character. While he hadn’t seen the movie as of this interview, we wanted to know what he was most excited for the audience to see, and even himself. Here’s some of what he said…

“I’m looking forward to mostly, I would say, the color correcting, the coming together of the sound, and all the scares that I read on paper, and you see… and you are part of even. All those scares become that much more magnetized in the finished product. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, and seeing how Jason’s editing all came together. Which takes they’ve chosen. Which takes they’ve left out. I’m also looking forward to experiencing it with the audience. Jumping when they jump. That will be a real treat.”

And finally we couldn’t let him off the hook without asking him what it was like to be covered in blood…

“It’s gross, and it’s sticky. It sticks to you, and it’s disgusting! But in the moment of what you’re working for, and what you’re trying to get it helps you know. So I use it on set, when I’m away from it it’s disgusting!…”

Would he do it again…

“It’s fun though. It’s all fun you know. I’m always about it. I’ll do it again in a heart beat!”

It was a pleasure getting to talk to Mark about “Along Came the Devil 2,” and we thank him for taking the time to answer our questions. Hopefully this gave you some insight on what to expect from the movie, and that you’ll check it! And don’t forget you can also support the movie on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!
