Women In Horror Month Interview With Author/Screenplay Writer Ravennight

As you may know, February is “Women in Horror” month. To celebrate, PromoteHorror.com asked women from different professions if they would like to answer some questions about being a “Woman in Horror.” One of the women, who was kind enough to answer our questions, was the terrific author and screenplay writer Ravennight. Lets see what she said about being a “Woman in Horror”…

-PH: When did you first become a horror fan?

-Ravennight: I was a young girl of 10. I remember watching the shows Night Gallery, Twilight Zone, Tales From The Darkside, Tales From The Crypt with my grandmother. These shows inspired me to write short story horror.

-PH: Was there a specific moment when you realized that you wanted to go from being a fan of horror to a woman who contributes to the genre, or did it just kind of happen naturally?

-Ravennight: I started writing horror shorts and poetry at 14. So it came Naturally. When I became physically handicapped is when I decided to make it a career. I absolutely love what I do now.

-PH: Since you’ve become a horror fan and woman in horror, have you always had the support of friends and family or did you have some explaining to do?

-Ravennight: Not everyone agrees with the genre I write for. However, I’m a leader not a follower. Some people believe it encourages people to do horrible things. I just write about the monsters that are already out there. Facts. I also do have a lot of supporters as well.

-PH: What does having a “Women in Horror” month mean to you?

-Ravennight: It highlights women women for our work and contribution to horror. Yes, We can scare you too. Plus it gives us an opportunity to know our sinister sisters. We should all support one another. We are all on the same mission to scare the hell out of you.

-PH: Is there a woman in horror who you consider a role model? How have they effected your life in and outside of horror?

-Ravennight: Mary Shelley. Where would we be without Frankenstein?

-PH: How do you think the role of women in horror has changed since you got involved in horror? Have you personally noticed a change from when you started?

-Ravennight: More recognition for us.

-PH: What do you think the future holds for women in horror?

-Ravennight: I think the opportunities are endless. What can’t we do? As long as we keep scaring people mission accomplished!

-PH: This is Women in Horror Month 11…how long do you think we will continue to celebrate this month before women get the recognition they deserve?

-Ravennight: WIHM should always be celebrated.

-PH: If you could serve a role in horror that you’ve never done, what would it be?

-Ravennight: I would love to direct. I’m happy just being a writer. However, I would like to see my character’s on film. I will do it myself if I have to.

-PH: Who is your favorite final girl, and favorite female villain?

-Ravennight: I think all final girls are badassary. Mary shaw will always be my favorite female villain.

-PH: Being that this is PromoteHorror.com, please feel free to plug your current/next horror project.
