Women in Horror Month Interview with Podcaster Melissa Potter

As you may know, February is “Women in Horror” month. To celebrate, PromoteHorror.com asked women from different professions if they would like to answer some questions about being a “Woman in Horror.” One of the women, who was kind enough to answer our questions, was the wonderful podcaster Melissa Potter. Lets see what she said about being a “Woman in Horror”…

-PH: When did you first become a horror fan?

-Melissa: I have been a fan of horror since I was about 4 years old, my mom LOVED horror movies and every Friday night my parents would rent 2 movies, one horror and one kid friendly..I always ended up watching both against my parents better judgement.

-PH: Was there a specific moment when you realized that you wanted to go from being a fan of horror to a woman who contributes to the genre, or did it just kind of happen naturally?

-Melissa: It kind of happened naturally through the convention circuit, I attended my first convention in 2014 and due to the guests I was able to connect with and the networking it became so much more than I could have ever dreamed was possible.

-PH: Since you’ve become a horror fan and woman in horror, have you always had the support of friends and family or did you have some explaining to do?

-Melissa: Everyone close to me knows my love for horror and understand when I give my all to something that I give 150% to whatever it may be horror or anything.

-PH: What does having a “Women in Horror” month mean to you?

-Melissa: It lets all the women who aren’t one of the sheep have an outlet to come together and be introduced to other fabulous women who build one another up instead of tearing one another down.

-PH: Is there a woman in horror who you consider a role model? How have they effected your life in and outside of horror?

-Melissa: I’m very fond of Felissa Rose, shes one of the most kind hearted women in horror and I love how she makes each and every fan feel important. I love how she balances her family life and her career but no matter what, her family comes first.

-PH: What do you think the future holds for women in horror?

-Melissa: The future is bright, women, as well as men can do whatever they put their minds to.

-PH: This is Women in Horror Month 11…how long do you think we will continue to celebrate this month before women get the recognition they deserve?

-Melissa: Well, if you have managed to do this 11 times, its going even if slowly, all it takes is people spreading the word and other women realizing that if this is what they want they too can have it.

-PH: Being that this is PromoteHorror.com, please feel free to plug your current/next horror project.

-Melissa: I have a podcast named Shock Treatment with Mel and Matty, with my friend and co-host Mathew Fisher. The show has pages on https://www.facebook.com/ShockTreatment2018 and
Twitter @shocktreat2018

I’m also a part of Matty’s production company BoomBastic Films which is also on Facebook, I do wardrobe and currently penning my first short film and there will be a film going into production soon as well but I can’t release that info just yet.

We would like to thank Melissa Potter for taking the time to answer our questions, but more importantly for her contribution to horror!
