Women in Horror Month Interview with Where The Scary Things Are Host Muse

As you may know, February is “Women in Horror” month. To celebrate, PromoteHorror.com asked women from different professions if they would like to answer some questions about being a “Woman in Horror.” One of the women, who was kind enough to answer our questions, was the one and only Muse. Lets see what she said about being a “Woman in Horror”…

-PH: When did you first become a horror fan?

-Muse: I became a horror fan pretty early 6 years old in fact! My parents took me to see Poltergeist at the drive in thinking it would be more on the family friendly side..to make a long story short… I was scared to death..my mother was FURIOUS…lol.. and my love for horror was born!

-PH: Was there a specific moment when you realized that you wanted to go from being a fan of horror to a woman who contributes to the genre, or did it just kind of happen naturally?

-Muse: I guess you could say it happened naturally yet unexpectedly. I love talking about movies in general on social media and horror being my first love, naturally it led to some pretty interesting discussions with some great folks..which led me to cross paths with Ken who suggested the idea of starting a horror based podcast. So that I would say was the moment I went from just being a fan to wanting to get involved and contribute. I still and always will see myself as a fan first and foremost however.

-PH: Since you’ve become a horror fan and woman in horror, have you always had the support of friends and family or did you have some explaining to do?

-Muse: Well..since my mom introduced me to horror because she was such a fan herself I think it really was no surprise that I became an avid fan as well. Interestingly enough she no longer gets into horror! My husband pretty much knew what he was getting into with me..although he still thinks I’m crazy. Haha. I think my days of having to explain myself are behind me unless it is with those that don’t know me all that well.

-PH: What does having a “Women in Horror” month mean to you?

-Muse: It means so much to me that is hard to really put into words! It is about time the horror world gave women in horror the recognition they so richly deserve! I think it is fantastic!

-PH: Is there a woman in horror who you consider a role model? How have they effected your life in and outside of horror?

-Muse: There are so many great women in horror it is honestly too difficult for me to pick one. So I will say all women in the world of horror are my role models because each one brings something different and unique! I love them all!

-PH: How do you think the role of women in horror has changed since you got involved in horror? Have you personally noticed a change from when you started?

-Muse: I haven’t been directly involved for very long but I’d say it HAS changed as far as recognition and appreciation for women in horror. I couldn’t be happier about that! <3

-PH: What do you think the future holds for women in horror?

-Muse: I think the possibilities are limitless and the future holds some pretty amazing things for women in horror! I am excited to see what unfolds in the genre with women leading the way!

-PH: This is Women in Horror Month 11…how long do you think we will continue to celebrate this month before women get the recognition they deserve?

-Muse: I think we will continue to celebrate women in horror and I see a lot of encouraging progress! I believe it will continue to be something that endures. There are a lot of hard working women in horror out there and they deserve the respect and recognition!

-PH: If you could serve a role in horror that you’ve never done, what
would it be?

-Muse: That’s a great question! I honestly am just happy to be a part of the horror world. My role matters not. If I could choose though I’ve always been interested in practical effects so I would love to explore more of that. I’m not sure I am artistic enough but it is something that has always intrigued me.

-PH: Who is your favorite final girl, and favorite female villain?

-Muse: Favorite final girl would have to be Amy Steel who played Ginny Fields from Friday The 13th Part 2 my favorite female villain would be Claire Higgins who portrayed Julia in Hellraiser and Hellraiser II.

-PH: Being that this is PromoteHorror.com, please feel free to plug your current/next horror project.

-Muse: My current and only project is our podcast Where The Scary Things Are! We have a fantastic group of co hosts with great segments so please check us out on all podcast platforms and follow us on social media! We would love to hear your feedback!

We would like to thank Muse for taking the time to answer our questions, but more importantly for her contribution to horror!
