New Kickstarter Campaign Re-imagines ’80s Horror Films as Productions of the Grand Guignol

Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol opened in Paris, France, in 1897, and quickly became world-famous for presenting plays that featured shocking levels of violence. The posters advertising these shows adopted a style of art as unique as the theater itself.

Now, a new Kickstarter project asks “What if” some of the most famous horror movies of the gory 1980s (the golden era of splatter) had been productions of the Grand Guignol.

Together, Mark Steensland and Destiny Kelly have created posters that make those “What ifs” into reality for four classic films: REANIMATOR, FRIDAY THE 13TH, DAY OF THE DEAD, and THE BEYOND.

Each 11″ by 17″ poster is available separately, or together as a set. A variant poster for THE BEYOND (featuring the iconic tarantula attack scene) will be given to all backers if the stretch goal is reached before the end of the campaign on Halloween night at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.
