“The Hex” Film Premiered This December

Drama horror film, by debut director Reine Swart, picked up for international distribution

“Everyone wears a mask”

The drama horror film The Hex, by debut director Reine Swart premiered in North America on December 15th 2020. The Hex (AKA Heks) is repped by prestigious Paris Based Sales Agents Reel Suspects and acquired for North American Distribution by Cleopatra Entertainment. 

The Hex is about a grieving British girl who tries to unravel her murdered mother’s secrets that are connected to a South African witch doctor. Hoping to put an end to this haunting hex, she travels to South Africa, but instead of finding closure, it casts her deeper into sinister depths. 

The film stars Coco Lloyd (X Factor), Mari Molefe van Heerden (7de Laan, Villa Rosa, Phil 1010, Die Vlieende Springbokkie), Hungani Ndlovu (Scandal, Memoire of an Honest Voice), Christopher Jaftha (Top Billing, Tertius, Table Manners),  Mary-Anne Barlow (Black Sails), Stephanie Sandows (Isidingo), Juanita de Villiers (Getroud met Rugby), Andre Velts (Knysna) and Christel van den Bergh (Vuil Wasgoed, Konfetti, Getroud met Rugby). 

South African actress, Reine Swart (Netflix’s Z Nation, The Lullaby, The Refuge, Detour) makes her debut in the director’s chair. “We thought about the concept ‘everyone wears a mask’ in 2019. Little did we know that everyone was literally going to wear masks in 2020. It has been a daunting year to say the least. For the film The Hex, the mask is a symbol that everyone wears a mask in one way or another”.

“It is wonderful when films like ours get to travel the world and be seen by international audiences.” added Swart.
