The “Shock Docs” series journeys back to the most infamous horror cases our country has ever known, taking a fresh look at true and terrifying tales of paranormal encounters.

The latest installment in the series explores the chilling history of the Amityville, New York home known as the most haunted house in America and location of the horrific mass murder of six family members in 1974. The smash hit movie in 1979, Amityville Horror, made the house famous, shattering box office records and terrifying audiences as the first real-life paranormal story, which opened the doors for the genre’s massive popularity to come.

In 1977, the book, “The Amityville Horror,” was published and caused a sensation. The subsequent 1979 film adaptation was a surprise box office hit. Through archival footage and re-creations, our film presents the harrowing true story of Ronald DeFeo, who murdering his entire family in the Amityville house, and the 28 days the Lutz family lived there. A rare, archival interview with George Lutz, describing the final, terrifying night in the Amityville house, is revealed for the first time.
