Women in Horror Month Interview with Author/Screenplay Writer Ravennight

As you may know, February is “Women in Horror” month. To celebrate, PromoteHorror.com asked women from different professions if they would like to answer some questions about being a “Woman in Horror.” One of the women, who was kind enough to answer our questions, was the fantastic author/screenplay writer Ravennight. Lets see what she said about being a “Woman in Horror”…

-PH: When did you first become a horror fan?

-Ravennight: I was around ten. I enjoyed watching Tales From The Crypt, Tales From The Darkside and Night Gallery with my mother and grandmother. This inspired me to write short story horror.

-PH: Was there a specific moment when you realized that you wanted to go from being a fan of horror to a woman who contributes to the genre, or did it just kind of happen naturally?

-Ravennight: Just watching the horror shows and movies inspired me at a young age. I knew I just wanted to scare people.

-PH: Since you’ve become a horror fan and woman in horror, have you always had the support of friends and family or did you have some explaining to do?

-Ravennight: It was a mixture. I especially had support from my grandmother when she was alive. She would always tell me the truth on what she thought was good or not.

-PH: What does having a “Women in Horror” month mean to you?

-Ravennight: Celebrating all the women in the horror genre.

-PH: Is there a woman in horror who you consider a role model? How have they effected your life in and outside of horror?

-Ravennight: It’s only been a few years for me on the scene. But personally I have enjoyed meeting talented women in this genre.

-PH: Is there a recent movie, performance, book, work of art, SFX effects, etc by a woman that really stands out to you? Maybe something that’s a good example of how women have changed the genre for the better?

-Ravennight: I can’t narrow it down to just one. I do interviews for Women Of Darkness Magazine and have met some amazing talent.

-PH: What do you think the future holds for women in horror?

-Ravennight: I think the opportunities for Women in Horror are endless.

-PH: And how about the state of horror? Not only have woman been changing horror, but so have people from different races, ethnicities, genders, etc… What do you think this means for horror now, and in the future?

-Ravennight: I say watch out world! We’re here and we plan to scare you!

-PH: If you could serve a role in horror that you’ve never done, what would it be?

-Ravennight: I aim to direct someday. I would like to see my stories come to life, even if I have to do it myself lol. But I am just happy writing books, screenplays and being a media reporter for Women Of Darkness Magazine. I also have two more books coming out and have been honored to have been asked to work on two more screenplays.

-PH: Who is your favorite final girl, and favorite female villain?

-Ravennight: Jamie Lee Curtis is my favorite final girl and Mary Shaw is my favorite female villain.

-PH: Being that this is PromoteHorror.com, please feel free to plug your current/next horror project.

-Ravennight: My books “Ehoes Of Madness” and poetry book “The Black Opal Mirror” are available on lulu.com My short story horror book “Echoes Of Madness” is also available on Amazon.com

Ravenmadness4you is my page on Facebook.

We would like to thank Ravennight for taking the time to answer our questions, but more importantly for her contribution to horror!
