‘Hunting Grounds: Dogmen of The Lakes’ examines strange canines in Tennessee and Kentucky.
Chilling new book explores the truth behind the Massacre of the Land Between the Lakes
A new book takes a deep dive into the strange and unsolved phenomena of the Land Between the Lakes. In Aaron Deese’s follow up to The Texas Dogman Triangle, new light is shed on a decades-old tale.
The Land Between the Lakes is the largest inland peninsula in the United States. Situated on the Tennessee/Kentucky border, the national recreational area is home to over 170,000 acres, and is a prime location for campers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. It has been since the 1960s, when the federal government displaced thousands of American citizens from what was then known as the Land Between the Rivers.
It is also the home of endless campfire stories, whispered rumors and urban legends. Rumblings of hauntings, mysterious deaths and even Bigfoot sightings abound in the Land Between the Lakes. Another creature – one far darker and more dangerous than the rest – is also said to haunt the shadowed forests and intertwining gulleys. Since the 1980s a frightening saga has circulated by word of mouth, of a horrific massacre at the claws and teeth of what is often described as a werewolf. Or, as some call them, Dogman.
Aaron Deese is joined by Shannon LeGro on a literal trip into the wolf’s den to interview witnesses and researchers – including a man who claims to have witnessed the massacre. Deese and LeGro put boots on the ground in the LBL and visit the location of the massacre first hand, all while attempting to uncover the truth behind this strange and disturbing tale.
Featuring interviews not previously available elsewhere and commentary by a battery of researchers, Hunting Grounds: Dogmen of The Lakes examines the “Massacre of the Land Between the Lakes” like never before, while tracing the history and legacy of the werewolf from its ancient roots to modern day sightings around the world. Hunting Grounds is a companion to the forthcoming documentary Dogman Territory: Werewolves in the Land Between the Lakes, slated for release in 2024.
Author: Aaron is a San Antonio, Texas based author and content producer with Small Town Monsters. When he’s not chasing werewolves he enjoys books, cartoons, video games, podcasting and nunchucks. Aaron lives with his wife Sara (with whom he hosts the podcast Hey Strangeness) and son Ezra along with way too many cats near the Alamo.
