About the Director

Steffen Haars first rose to prominence as founding member of the Dutch comedy group “New Kids” (with creative partner, Flip VanderKuil), for which they wrote, directed, starred and edited material. A TV adaptation of “New Kids” from 2007 to 2009 proved to be so successful that it spun off into a feature film, New Kids Turbo, in 2010, which became a smash hit in the Netherlands and Belgium and spawned a significant cult following throughout northern Germany. The film shattered Dutch box office records and was quickly followed by a sequel, New Kids Nitro, in 2011. New Kids Nitro would go on to break the duo’s own records. The “New Kids” films also brought the duo to global attention as they went on a successful festival run, drawing a huge response from festival programmers that led directly to Austin’s Fantastic Fest creating a comedy competition section within the festival, so that Steffen and Flip’s work would be eligible for awards, of which they’ve now won several. Steffen and Flip followed up their “New Kids” work with two other Dutch features – Bro’s Before Ho’s in 2013 and Ron Goossens: Low Budget Stuntman in 2017, both of which also topped Dutch box office results.
