SHUDDER
Directed, Written and Produced by Julia Max
Starring Colby Minifie (“The Boys”) and Kate Burton (“Grey’s Anatomy”)
Streaming on Shudder Friday, May 23rd
“Female-facing horror finds a striking new voice in Julia Max. Though it delivers some quite serious wince-inducing gore, The Surrender never loses sight of its sincere emotional core. A bloody genre reworking of Postcards from the Edge.”
– Damon Wise, Deadline
“Just when a horror trend or theme feels tired and played out, an emerging filmmaker breathes new life into it. A visceral, thrilling and high-stakes vision without ever dampening the complicated, messy, and unglamorous nature of loss, marks Max as one to watch.”
– Meagan Navarro, Bloody Disgusting
“Scary, squirm-inducing, and sympathetic all at once, The Surrender is another great entry in the ‘trauma horror’ subgenre.”
– Hoai-Tran Bui, Inverse
“Colby Minifie and Kate Burton’s tremendous, ferocious performances are some of the best of 2025 so far, in the horror genre or otherwise.”
– Cody Dericks, Next Best Picture
