Australian screen veteran Roger Ward, best known for his gritty presence in Mad Max and other cult classics, is stepping into Indian cinema with director Nirmal Baby Varghese’s upcoming zombie horror-action film Disease X: The Zombie Experiment.
To mark the occasion of Ward’s birthday, director Nirmal revealed the actor’s character poster on social media, sending horror fans into a frenzy. Ward’s celebrated filmography includes exploitation staples such as Stone (1974), The Man from Hong Kong (1975), and Mad Dog Morgan (1976). Although he was previously attached to Thariode: The Lost City, it is Disease X that now officially launches his Indian screen journey.
Produced by Casablanca Film Factory in association with Vivid Frames, Disease X promises a unique fusion of sci-fi horror and high-octane action, setting it apart in India where the zombie sub genre is still rare. The bilingual feature will be released in both Malayalam and Tamil, with a theatrical launch slated for mid-next year.
The ensemble cast includes Jeffin Joseph, Akash Aryan, Shallil Kallur, Rithesh Aramana, and Varun Ravindran. Behind the scenes, cinematographer Abhilash Karunakaran captures the chaos, while composer Ranjit K R delivers the haunting score. Director Nirmal Baby Varghese takes full creative control, also handling editing and sound design to shape what could be one of the most ambitious zombie films from the Indian subcontinent.
