Film is set for a nationwide theatrical release later this year
Saban Films has taken North American rights to the sci-fi revenge thriller REDUX REDUX, written and directed by brothers Kevin McManus and Matthew McManus (American Vandal, The Block Island Sound). One of the breakout hits at SXSW this year, the film had its world premiere in the Midnighter section. A nationwide theatrical release is set for later this year by Saban.
The North American rights were brokered by Nate Bolotin and Pip Ngo for XYZ Films and by Jonathan Saba for Saban Films.
The film stars the McManus Brothers’ sister Michaela McManus (The Block Island Sound, The Orville), Jim Cummings (Thunder Road, The Wolf of Snow Hollow), Jeremy Holm (House of Cards, Brooklyn 45), Taylor Misiak (Dave), Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things) and newcomer Stella Marcus.
In an attempt to avenge her daughter’s death, Irene Kelly (McManus) travels through parallel universes, killing her daughter’s murderer over and over again. She grows addicted to the revenge streak, putting her own humanity in jeopardy.
The film is produced by Mothership Motion Pictures, which reunites the team behind festival favorites Funeral Kings and 13 Cameras, which includes Michael J. McGarry (The Wolf of Snow Hollow), PJ McCabe (The Beta Test), Nate Cormier (Star Wars: Bad Batch) and the McManus Brothers.
“We couldn’t be happier to be working with Saban for the release of Mothership Motion Pictures’ first film. Jonathan and the team at Saban knocked us out with their enthusiasm and belief in the film. They want to give fans the best experience possible, and we’re thrilled audiences will have the opportunity to see REDUX REDUX on the big screen. We can’t think of a better partner to be working with on this film,” said the McManus Brothers.
“Saban Films is on a mission to partner with the very best independent filmmakers on genre bending, high quality films built for theatrical audiences,” say Jonathan Saba and Shanan Becker, Co-Presidents of Saban Films. “The McManus Brothers are that and more. Redux Redux is an unrelenting display of virtuosic filmmaking… the tone, the performances, the storytelling. All first class. These guys will be directing massive studio tentpoles in no time. We’re proud to welcome them to the Saban Films Family.”
Upcoming titles from XYZ Films include the SXSW standout thriller Hallow Road, directed by Babak Anvari and starring Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys; The Trip starring Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Juliette Lewis and Timothy Olyphant, which is currently in post-production; Havoc, directed by Gareth Evans and starring Tom Hardy and Forrest Whitaker which premiered on Netflix Friday April 25th; True-story exorcism thriller The Ritual starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens which releases wide this summer; and Something Beautiful, the new visual album from Miley Cyrus.
