The sleepy market town of Sudbury, Suffolk in welcomes international guests to the ninth edition of Dead And SudBuried, a three-day horror film festival celebrating new and old horror movies! The terrifying event returns over the weekend of 17th to 19th October with another horror packed schedule featuring nine brand new festival circuit features, 9 classic movies and 18 new horror shorts alongside Director/Cast Q&A’s, food trucks, merchandise and much more over three long, scary days.
The Dead And SudBuried Horrorthon began life in 2016 in Suffolk in the small market town of Sudbury as a celebration of classic horror movies, screening seven classics over a single day in the intimate venue of The Quay Theatre. Since these auspicious beginnings, it has returned each year, building on success and growing each year until 2021, when the fifth event expanded to two days, adding brand new festival features including UK premieres, horror shorts from around the world, live director/cast Q&A’s, merchandise and bringing in a bigger audience of attendees from all over the UK. The sixth event saw growth to 3 days and a sold-out theatre with this year’s ninth edition guaranteed to bring in more movies, more guests and more scares throughout the weekend.
The brand new features are made up of office-based satire Kombucha where a secretive company encourages all employees to enjoy their ‘healthy’ vitamin drink, the suspense packed, nail-biting seven-year-old led The Rows, the dark and twisted creature feature Pig Hill, the giallo-inspired, violent revenge tale Death Cycle, the Gory, blood-flowing, explosive British action movie The Arbiter, a sarcastic podcast host exploring life after death in The Last Podcast, an ultra-violent homage to 70’s exploitation in Southern Nightmare, the fresh from limited theatrical release, ghostly mystery The Caretaker and finally, SXSW and FrightFest favourite, the highly praised multiverse serial killer thriller Redux Redux. Director/cast Q&A’s are planned after the screening for a number of features including The Arbiter, The Caretaker and The Rows featuring director Seth Daly all the way from the USA.
The classic horror movies were selected over the Summer through online voting and this year feature Tobe Hooper’s full 3-hour 1979 version of Stephen King’s vampire classic Salem’s Lot, the third part of George A. Romero’s Dead ‘trilogy’ Day Of The Dead, 70’s Satan worshiping meets road movie Race With The Devil, new-wave of French extremity front runner Martyrs, the original Candyman featuring the late legend Tony Todd, 80’s sleazy slasher Maniac, the very grim and realistic Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, David Cronenberg’s head-bursting telekinesis sci-fi Scanners and the absurd Category III shocker Ebloa Syndrome.
The line-up is completed with eighteen stunning horror shorts from all over the world, each playing with one of the features. In addition to movies, there will be horror memorabilia on sale, giveaways, local discounts with retailers and restaurants, food trucks, a fully licensed bar and more surprises planned throughout the weekend.
Andy Piper, Organiser says ”Dead and SudBuried continues to grow and build a reputation for showing great movies, what started as a simple quest to bring horror movies to our small town has turned into an incredible monster screening some amazing new movies and welcoming filmmakers from across the world. We’re so lucky to have an event of this scale in Sudbury and it’s fantastic to become a respected part of the horror festival calendar. The event has sold out for the last two years and we’re anticipating another bumper year! If you love horror, you should come along!”
