Indie Horror Film ‘Mamochka’ Features Monster Doll with Ties to History’s Most Reviled Villains

Film Distributor BayView Entertainment announces the release of Mamochka, a terrifying new entry in their library of horror titles, now available to purchase or rent from finer streaming video platforms worldwide including to rent/buy on Amazon Prime Video.

The new film from writer-director Vilan Trub turns to real-life, tragic history for its backstory, with a haunted doll possessed by the evil spirits of the Nazis who created it during World War II.

The frightening film’s release comes on the heels of several notable horror hits from BayView, including Take From Me, Nahualli, and Lechuza. The distributor out of New Jersey has been distributing horror films for over a decade, and found its first big terror success with the arthouse indie horror smash, 2022’s Skinamarink. Its worldwide success cemented BayView’s name in the genre film space, and they are considered one of the premiere distributors of horror films to TVOD and AVOD outlets.

Trub’s previous release with BayView was the dark noir detective thriller called, The Dirty Kind, Executive Produced by the late Michael Madsen, for which Trub received good notices from film critics. Nikayaya called the film, “a rather impressive attempt at a film of Reservoir Dogs/Swingers status.” Wesley Collins cited it as “a fast-moving film with high intensity and many twists… high impact and high energy.” Viddy Well proclaimed, “Trub has essentially crafted a love letter to the genre that pays homage to its familiar trappings while offering a sprinkle of nuance on top.”

Now, Trub has returned to write, produce, and direct another love letter to another film genre. He’s applied his signature nuance to offer layers to not just a horror tale, but also the sub-genre of horror films that use Nazis as a shocking backdrop to underscore how reprehensibly and irredeemable evil they are, such as Shock Waves, Frankenstein’s Army, and especially the Puppet Master films.

Reviewing an advance screener of Mamochka, Graeae Horror says, “This feature length film is truly so well executed. The casting is superb, with not one unlikable character… the story plays out effortlessly… a great play on the over hyped doll horror trope, leaning more into the true horrors lurking in world history.”

“I made Mamochka to tell a cautionary tale about what happens when a person like our lead character, Mark, refuses to just chill out,” says Trub. “Every movie needs a core, and Mamochka is about unhealthy obsession. The internet has made obsession easy with hyper-focused algorithms, creating an age of perceived right and wrong. In reality, we’re just a bunch of ridiculous, annoying ‘Marks’ running around. I want audiences to watch this film and be both terrified and at the same time laugh, because there’s a little ‘Mark’ inside all of us.”

Prior to Mamochka’s streaming release, the film enjoyed successful extended theatrical preview screenings in New York, and kicked off the 2026 Horror-on-Sea Horror Film Festival in the UK.

“Vilan has delivered for BayView once again,” says BayView Entertainment President, Peter Castro. “His keen sense for locking into the subtexts of what makes film genres work is as sharp as ever.”
