PROMOTEHORROR.COM SFX HORROR MAKEUP CONTEST

Last year we introduced the PromoteHorror.com SFX Horror Makeup Contest, and it was a huge success. We had tons of great entries, and the winners received “Featured Promotions” on our website. By being featured on our website, these artists had the opportunity to be showcased on a different platform, and reach a large new audience. Last year’s winners came from a variety of age groups and talent levels, including a 13 year old with only a few months of experience, and two 16 year old winners with only a few years under their belts!

Due to the overwhelming interest in the 2018 contest, we decided to bring it back for 2019! Our goal is to make this contest an annual event for us, and to continue celebrating SFX Horror Makeup Artists.

In order to make the contest bigger and better, we turned to an expert in SFX horror makeup, and one of our favorite artists, Jacquie Lantern. Jacquie is a self taught special effects makeup artist based in Minneapolis, MN. She has done makeup for film, television and music videos as well as numerous zombie and horror themed events. She is skilled in airbrush as well as traditional makeup applications, and has been featured in Dread Central, Horror Freak News, Pophorror.com and Crypt TV’s Fatal Beauty Series. Jacquie will lend us her expertise in helping judge the contest, and has secured some terrific sponsors.

Like last year, all of our winners will receive a “Featured Promotion” on our site, but this year we have more prizes in store for winners. One lucky winner will receive a Ben Nye Basic Training Moulage Kit from Norcostco. Other winners will receive a Ben Nye MagiCake Illusion Palette also from Norcostco, and a free entry in the Art & Horror Creation Award Contest from Creators Unite Magazine

Below are all of the contest rules, and more about prizes. Please take time to read them carefully, and we look forward to seeing your entries!!!

Contest Rules:

-Please send us between 3-5 pictures of your SFX Horror Makeup work. Please email them to us at HorrO@PromoteHorror.com with “SFX Horror Makeup Contest” in the subject line. Also please include in the email any website, and/or social media accounts you may have so that we can verify the work is yours.

-The pictures must be horror related, and the more creative and scary the better! In addition, we’re interested only in the makeup on your face and neck. If you can make your arm look like it’s cut open that’s great, but that’s not what we’re judging. Also, full costume pictures are fine, but again we will be judging you on your face not the costume.

-No makeup videos please, only pictures! If you’re a lucky winner we’ll be happy to share your videos in the promotions.

-No dangerous makeups. This includes soda cans, pencils, and other objects protruding out of your face. It may look great, but we don’t want to promote the potential dangers that come with doing this kind of SFX makeup.

-The contest ends on July 31, 2019, and winners will be notified via email by August 3rd, 2019.

    1. Yes, it was supposed to be done already, but we held off because of the virus. We haven’t decided on a date yet, but will definitely have a 3rd annual contest at some point.
