Women in Horror Month Interview with Horror Host Mistress Malicious

As you may know, February is “Women in Horror” month. To celebrate, PromoteHorror.com asked women from different professions if they would like to answer some questions about being a “Woman in Horror.” One of the women, who was kind enough to answer our questions, was the great horror host Mistress Malicious. Lets see what she said about being a “Woman in Horror”…

-PH: When did you first become a horror fan?

-Mistress: For as long as I can remember I have been watching the classics…As, a child, I lived with an Aunt and Uncle, and it was like a Sunday ritual..

-PH: Was there a specific moment when you realized that you wanted to go from being a fan of horror to a woman who contributes to the genre, or did it just kind of happen naturally?

-Mistress: I started as a co-host on Bordello of Horror in 2015.. I actually started reluctantly as I was going through some rough times, but once I got going I fell in love with it it all… My love of classics and classic horror came flooding back and I knew I had found a calling..I continue to co-host on Bordello of Horror ( TVW broadcast Madison, Wisconsin).. I decided to branch out and start my own internet show in May of 2019 called Mistress Peace Theatre…This project is “loosely” telling a story….

-PH: Since you’ve become a horror fan and woman in horror, have you always had the support of friends and family or did you have some explaining to do?

-Mistress: I would have to say, not one member of my family or friends batted an eye…lol

-PH: What does having a “Women in Horror” month mean to you?

-Mistress: Well obviously this is a wonderful way to honor and educate fans, including myself.. I find it unfortunate that we need a specific month…I mean, we are “in” Horror year round…lol

-PH: Is there a woman in horror who you consider a role model? How have they effected your life in and outside of horror?

-Mistress: Kathy Bates

-PH: How do you think the role of women in horror has changed since you got involved in horror? Have you personally noticed a change from when you started?

-Mistress: I like the uptick I am seeing of empowered women in horror…I am doing my part to contribute to that and will continue to do so as long as I am able….

-PH: What do you think the future holds for women in horror?

-Mistress: More bad assery!

-PH: This is Women in Horror Month 11…how long do you think we will continue to celebrate this month before women get the recognition they deserve?

-Mistress: That is a loaded question…lol …I try not to focus on the recognition…I’m just out here doing my thing like any man…Like me, dont like me…It is on my own hard work and merits..It’s not about my gender…

-PH: If you could serve a role in horror that you’ve never done, what would it be?

-Mistress: I’m just going to say that is already in the works… There is a much darker Mistress Malicious on the rise…

-PH: Who is your favorite final girl, and favorite female villain?

-Mistress: Nancy… Nightmare on Elm Street

-PH: Being that this is PromoteHorror.com, please feel free to plug your current/next horror project.
