“We Put the World to Sleep” Wraps Production After 7 years in the Making

Romanian filmmaker and actor Adrian Țofei (known for his 2015 cult horror movie Be My Cat: A Film for Anne) has wrapped principal photography for his upcoming apocalyptic feature film We Put the World to Sleep. The independently produced movie has been 7 years in the making and was shot in 13 cities and villages spread over Turkey, Romania and Ukraine (before the Russian invasion).

Adrian Țofei partially improvised the film which he described on social media as “the most difficult and ambitious project he ever did“. Starring Adrian Țofei, Turkish actress Duru Yücel-Țofei (Adrian’s partner on and off screen), American actresses Erisse Peterson and Danha Yunes and Romanian actress Andreea Enciu, the movie deals with a couple (played by Adrian and Duru) who get lost in the characters they play in an apocalyptic film and embark on a secret mission to end the world for real.

The multiple film-within-a-film meta layers coupled with a screenlife approach blur the lines between what’s real and what’s not, resulting in a mind-bending and challenging movie which Adrian hopes will greatly surpass his first feature Be My Cat: A Film for Anne called “revolutionary and dangerous” by Dread Central and “a new intelligent found footage film you need to see” by Blumhouse.

A festival premiere is expected as soon as post-production wraps, and a first teaser trailer will be made available even sooner.
