BUT Film Festival Organizes BUT Movie Screenings in the Netherlands and Belgium

The monthly shows in Breda, Rotterdam, and Antwerp showcase new and old BUT films.

BUT Film Festival is kicking off with BUTEvents: a series of monthly screenings in Breda, Rotterdam, and Antwerp, aiming to showcase genre classics and new releases. Each event has its own unique programming and audience, linked by the common thread of BUT productions.

Breda: BUTplugged

At Chassé Cinema in Breda, BUTFF opens its film archive to show the craziest analoguescreenings on 35mm or 16mm. The upcoming screening is ‘Sheba, Baby’ (William Girdler,1975). A private detective returns to her hometown Louisville, Kentucky, to deal with mobsters trying to intimidate her father. Expect plenty of shootings, yacht parties with sophisticated torture methods, and more, in this sexy blaxploitation classic.

BUTFF previously showed ‘The Beyond’ (Lucio Fulci, 1981), ‘Monster Shark’ (Lamberto Bava, 1984), ‘Blue Rita/Das Frauenhaus’ (Jesus Franco, 1971), and more. The event gathers anaudience of diehard BUT fans, with visitors arriving even from Berlin. It also gives the audience the chance to exercise their democratic powers: before each film, BUTFF shows three trailers and the visitors vote on which one they want to see next.

Antwerp: BUTklapper

The klappei cinema in Antwerp showcases fresh BUT productions, with a specific although semi-secret love for Nicolas Cage.

Previous BUTklapper films included Pig (Michael Sarnoski, 2021), Duyster (Thomas Vanbrabant & Jordi Ostir, 2021), and Willy’s Wonderland (Kevin Lewis, 2021).

Rotterdam: BUT@WORM

BUTFF’s artistic director Alex Diehl programs monthly screenings of BUT films at the heart of Rotterdam’s avant-garde, WORM. On October 26, he will show “Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes”. A cafe owner discovers that the TV in his cafe suddenly shows images from the future – but only two minutes into the future.

Alex previously programmed Wakaliwood Madness (two films by Ugandan cult director Nabwana Isaac Godfrey Geoffrey), Son of the White Mare (Marcell Jankovics, 1981), and VFW (Joe Begos, 2019).
