Breaking Glass Set to Release Rodrigo Bellott’s 70s Inspired Bolivian Horror Feature BLOOD-RED OX this November

Breaking Glass Pictures is proud to announce the North American release of Bolivian award-winning director Rodrigo Bellott’s powerful first horror feature BLOOD-RED OX. Blood-Red Ox will hold a limited theatrical this October, with a VOD, digital and DVD release to follow November 8.

Directed by Rodrigo Bellott, best known as the director behind Bolivia’s Academy Award entries Sexual Dependency and Tu Me Marques, and as the producer of Jim Mickle’s U.S. remake of the Mexican horror hit We Are What We Are, Blood-Red Ox is his first foray into the horror genre.

“Blood-Red Ox started as a personal exploration and homage to the psychological horror films of Polanski, Bergman and Argento in the 70´s and 80´s, with a contemporary twist”, said Bellott. “This is a film is also inspired by my personal experience with a boyfriend with mental health issues, and in a way is my most personal film. It is a true honor as an out gay filmmaker to have Breaking Glass behind such a personal and special film.”

Inspired by the true European genre classics of the 1970s, Blood-Red Ox is a terrifying horror trip that turns into a psychedelic nightmare beyond belief. The film stars Mazin Akar and Kaolin Bass as the couple who descends into madness, alongside Andrea Camponovo as their fellow adventurer into the darkness. It is produced by Rodrigo A. Orozco, Rodrigo Bellott, Kaolin Bass and Andrea Camponovo, executive produced by Nate Atkins, Bernardo Ratto, Gunnar Pareja, Beto Lema, and Virginio Lema.

Blood-Red Ox follows Amir and Amat, who are invited on a trip into the South American rain forest, but quickly find the pleasant visit to Bolivia taking a bizarre turn as Amat starts having strange visions and loses his mind over the ghostly presence of a giant blood-red ox. Amir must save his boyfriend from paranoia, but he quickly realizes that he can trust nothing and nobody – as he might be losing his mind too.

Blood-Red Ox held its World Premiere the Guadalajara International Film Festival where it played in competition, and went on to play numerous festivals including OUTshine Film Festival, the 38th Chicago Latino Film Festival, the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, and the International Film Festival of Kerala.

Blood-Red Ox will arrive on November 8 on DVD and digital, VOD platforms including iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Vudu, Dish/Dish Digital as well as local cable and satellite providers.
