Rupert Friend Joins Cast in Serial-Killer Thriller THE EDGE OF NORMAL for XYZ Films

RUPERT FRIEND JOINS CHLOË GRACE-MORETZ IN XYZ FILMS’ THRILLER “THE EDGE OF NORMAL”

Adaptation of Carla Norton’s serial killer novel to begin production this Spring

Rupert Friend has boarded serial-killer thriller THE EDGE OF NORMAL alongside Chloe Grace-Moretz, the first English-language feature from director Carlota Pereda (Piggy). THE EDGE OF NORMAL was written by Matt Venne (Dexter: Resurrection, Test Drive) with revisions by Lori Evans Taylor (Final Destination: Bloodlines), based on Carla Norton’s acclaimed novel of the same name from St. Martin’s Press. XYZ Films is producing and financing with funding from IPR.VC. Vanishing Angle will produce alongside Andrew Deane and Ava Jamshidi for Industry Entertainment. CAA Media Finance is co-repping domestic sales with XYZ.

Reeve LeClaire (Moretz) is still haunted from when she was held captive as a teenager by a sadistic man, but when her psychiatrist (Friend) asks her to mentor a newly rescued survivor, she’s pulled into a chilling game of cat-and-mouse—one that threatens to drag her back into the nightmare she barely escaped.

Friend is having a moment, starring in New Line’s Companion earlier this year, and with two critically-acclaimed films in the Berlin Film Festival: Michel Franco’s Dreams and Lucio Castro’s After this Death. He will next be seen in Jurassic World: Rebirth and Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme later this summer. He previously starred in Obi-Wan Kenobi for Disney, Armando Ianucci’s Death of Stalin and was nominated for an Emmy for Homeland.  

Upcoming titles from XYZ Films include The Trip starring Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Juliette Lewis and Timothy Olyphant, which is currently in production; Havoc, directed by Gareth Evans and starring Tom Hardy and Forrest Whitaker which premieres on Netflix this year; True-story exorcism thriller The Ritual starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens which releases wide this spring; Kill Me starring Charlie Day and Allison Williams and Ash starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul and directed by Flying Lotus, releasing wide this week from IFC.

Industry Entertainment is producing the upcoming Man With A Bag for Amazon and Runner starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson. Industry’s Deane recently EP’d Woman of the Hour directed by and starring Anna Kendrick, for Netflix.

Friend is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
