Filmmaker Anna Zlokovic Saddles Up to Horror Feature THE BROODMARE for XYZ Films and Tea Shop

XYZ Films and Tea Shop to Produce Black List Script; Production Targeting 2026 Shoot

XYZ Films and Tea Shop have partnered with director Anna Zlokovic on Michael Voyer’s Black List horror script, THE BROODMARE. The news comes on the heels of Zlokovic’s highlight opening segment in “V/H/S/HALLOWEEN” for Shudder, along with Tea Shop’s buzzy sale of indie horror pic OBSESSION to Focus Features following its TIFF premiere last month. THE BROODMARE is out for casting with an intended 2026 shoot.

THE BROODMARE follows a recovering alcoholic who travels to a remote horse breeding farm to make amends with his high school sweetheart as part of his twelve step program. As tensions escalate, he finds himself caught in the violent crosshairs of a grand scheme orchestrated by his cult-following hosts.

“As soon as we read ‘The Broodmare’, we knew we had to be a part of it – it’s a searing, character-driven horror film with a finale for the ages,” said XYZ and Tea Shop. “Anna’s brilliant vision is the perfect vehicle for Michael’s writing and we can’t wait to see it realized.”

Zlokovic added, “’The Broodmare’ is the kind of script you don’t put down and then your jaw hits the floor by the end. I’ve never read anything like it. It’s exactly the type of movie I’ve been craving to watch: high tension, provocative storytelling that unravels into something totally unexpected.”

XYZ and Tea Shop most recently collaborated on Fantastic Fest highlight NIGHT PATROL which was acquired by IFC/Shudder for a January 2026 release, and the upcoming BANQUET, which starts production this fall in the UK with Meghann Fahy starring for filmmaker Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia. Alex Williams and Aram Tertzakian will oversee the film for XYZ, alongside James Harris for Tea Shop.

Anna Zlokovic is an award-winning writer and director based in Los Angeles. Her work has screened at festivals including Sundance, SXSW, Slamdance, Sitges, and Fantasia. A Tribeca and Chanel Through Her Lens fellow and one of IndieWire’s “28 Rising Female Filmmakers to Watch,” Anna’s debut feature APPENDAGE premiered at SXSW and is streaming globally on Hulu and Disney+.
