Director Darren Kwan’s award-winning horror microshort ‘Delora’ is currently streaming online following a successful run on the festival circuit. The 5 minute film follows an antique conservator who inadvertently unleashes a malevolent entity while restoring a broken doll left behind by his late father. ‘Delora’ took home Best Microshort at the Wreak Havoc Film Fest and was an Award Winner at the Sin City Horror Fest, alongside scoring nominations at the Gig Harbor Film Festival and the Rock City Film Festival, and screening as part of the virtual programming at Panic Fest 2024.
This project marked a deeply personal journey for Darren Kwan. Inspired by films like Annabelle, Darren Kwan blended the classic creepy doll prop with a raw emotional character core, which is the universal desire for parental approval and the question of what loved ones will leave behind after they are gone. The main key is utilizing a doll from an old project stored in his home, then collaborating with his DP on unique shot compositions, and movements, bringing it all together in a single day shoot.
Building on this momentum, Darren Kwan has revealed that he is currently scripting a brand new horror short film. The upcoming short also features a distinctive doll prop motif, however it is separate from the narrative universe of Delora. In fact, it has a fresh set of storyline and characters.
