THE COVEN Boards Aussie Slasher THE ONLY ONE Ahead of World Premiere at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival

Sales company THE COVEN has picked up the worldwide rights to Michael Schwarz’s directorial debut THE ONLY ONE, ahead of the slasher’s World Premiere at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival and following its Special Advance Screening at MONSTER Film Festival in Sydney, Australia.

Written by Martyn Pedlar and Marek Polgar, and directed by Producer-turned-Director Michael Schwarz, THE ONLY ONE is an ode to the slashers of the 80’s and 90’s with strong leading women Mel Jarnson (STREET FIGHTER, MORTAL KOMBAT) and Saphira Moran (BEAST).

“The Only One taps into the growing appetite for relationship-driven horror films,” says Kendall Anlian of The Coven. “It’s fresh, smart, and wildly fun, Schwarz directs his first feature like a horror veteran, while Jarnson is an absolute force of charisma and badass energy, we’re lucky to be on board.”

Following Zoe (Jarnson), who returns to her Australian hometown following an unsuccessful attempt to become an actress in Los Angeles, things quickly turn as a mysterious ‘Prince Charming’ begins to murder all her exes. Teaming up with her high-school best friend Piper (Moran), the two race to unmask the twisted Prince Charming before he turns her romantic past into a deadly killing spree. In a thrilling and heart-warming romp down under, Zoe must face all the hearts she’s broken before Prince Charming is the only one left alive to claim her heart.

“The Coven are the newest additions to The Only One family, but it feels like they’ve been with us for the whole journey,” says director Michael Schwarz. “I couldn’t be more excited to have them introducing it to the market, and allowing this film to find its true audience.”

THE ONLY ONE is written by Martyn Pedler and Marek Polgar, directed by Michael Schwarz, and produced by John Schwarz under ‘Deeper Water Films, with Australian-based production company Three777 Films as Co-Producer.

The slasher genre is no stranger to the female-owned The Coven, run by Priscilla Ross Smith and Kendall Anlian, the independent sales and production company behind the worldwide sales of TERRIFIER 2 ($15M BO) and TERRIFIER 3 ($100M BO). Most recently, The Coven boarded SUNNYSIDE, a dark cannibalism horror currently shooting in France. The Coven will be selling at AFM this November in Century City.
