PH: I have to ask, did the coronavirus pandemic affect either the production or distribution of the film – or were you one of the lucky ones?

-Chad: We wrapped well before the pandemic struck but caught us right when I was about to begin meetings with distribution companies.

-PH: When did you decide to tackle the film? Been a long time coming?

-Chad: In 2017, it was an unusually fast process getting this project off the ground.

-PH: What was the main appeal for you?

-Chad: I’ve always loved ghost stories. They involve elements of history and the good ones usually involve a tortured soul that screams (sometimes literally) to be heard.

-PH: Where does the idea come from?

-Chad: I had an apartment in Ukraine, the building was well over a 100 years old. In 2016 I was hearing banging sounds and people speaking from the apartment above but only in the middle of the night. Then I discovered a secret staircase. But when I found out that no one lived above me was when it became my ghost story. I began writing the script shortly before Christmas that year.

-PH: What gives the film its scares, in your opinion?

-Chad: The tortured cries from the attic, the secret stairs and the haunting child’s room where it all begins. The unknown often compels us to go places where we might not want to go but sometimes we just have to. The unknown is scary.

-PH: And do those moments happen organically, as you go, or were they all in the script?

-Chad: In this film it was organic.

-PH: What sort of feedback are you getting?

-Chad: Some people are really digging the film.
