Horror Film Underdog “The Quantum Terror” Nominated for Best Indie Horror Movie at FilmThreat.com’s “Award This”

Directed by Christopher Cooksey, “The Quantum Terror” Celebrates a Low-Budget Triumph in Independent Filmmaking

The Quantum Terror, a Lovecraftian indie horror movie shot for a mere $15,000 inside director Christopher Cooksey‘s own house and garage in Kyle, Texas, has been nominated for the prestigious “Best Indie Horror Movie” category at FilmThreat.com’s award show alternative known as “Award This.”

Starring actress Kristin Cotchell in the leading role of Samantha Carroll, who also plays her eerie twin sister Sylvia, The Quantum Terror offers a mind-bending and immersive experience that showcases the indomitable spirit of indie filmmaking, paying homage to everything from Alien and The Thing to Silence of the Lambs, Lost Highway, and The Shining.

Upon learning of this significant nomination, Cooksey expressed his exhilaration, stating, “I’m so excited to be nominated because, to me, Award This is the only award that really matters in 2023, and I don’t say that lightly. I think it’s going to grow into something special in this new ‘Iron Age‘ of independent filmmaking, much in the same way Sundance did, when it first got going. Not to mention what an honor it is to be up against giants like Steve Barton‘s Terrifier 2 and Richard Elfman, who directed Forbidden Zone and founded The Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo. It feels like the real deal.”

About “The Quantum Terror”

The Quantum Terror” is a testament to Christopher Cooksey‘s unique vision, inspired by the eerie writings of  H.P. Lovecraft and the stylistic influences of directors David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick. This independent effort celebrates the craftsmanship of old-school practical effects and will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.

“I can’t wait to see what Cooksey and company come up with next, be it one of the numbers of unfilmed Lovecraft stories out there or something wholly original. The Quantum Terror is a hallucinatory head f****r that is bound for cult stardom.”

-Michael Talbot-Haynes, Film Threat

A young woman named Sam, fresh out of a relationship with another woman named Lucy decides that it’s time to leave her “party life” behind and start focusing on being more like her much more accomplished twin sister, Sylvia. However, her identical sibling has gone missing, leaving behind only books from her quantum mechanics classes, strange occult drawings, and an abrasive boyfriend named Jacob whom everyone suspects did something to her. With all the clues pointing to her possibly being lost in the local underground wash system, Sam follows him down into a subterranean world of monsters and madness

The film’s special effects were meticulously crafted by Christopher Cooksey himself and Jenna Green, a standout contestant on the movie makeup challenge show Face Off, previously aired on the SyFy Channel. The extraordinary miniature sets were brought to life by Heather Lowe, whose crafting crafting talents were previously dedicated to making costumes and dollhouses for her daughters. Additionally, the Oscar-winning special effects company, Amalgamated Dynamics Inc. (studioADI), lent their expertise to create awe-inspiring tentacle effects.

The title track, “She Casts No Shadow,” is performed by the legendary L.A. deathrock band Frankenstein, adding a haunting auditory dimension to the movie.
