Portland, OR indie filmmaker Cosmo Spada has launched a crowdfunding campaign for “Scare Support,” a horror-comedy web series that promises to bring a fresh perspective to the genre. The campaign, which kicked off with a successful launch on October 16th, aims to fund a full season of this unique show. The pilot episode, filmed in 2023, is now available for viewing, alongside the ongoing crowdfunding campaign, at ScareSupport.com.
Scare Support follows a group of misfit monsters attending a support group, blending classic horror elements with heartfelt storytelling and sharp humor. The series features an array of creatures including a fabric softener addicted sock monster, a disgruntled were-rabbit, and the scene-stealing Mailer-Daemon, a ghostly internet phenomenon previously featured in Spada’s award-winning short film “Reply from Mailer-Daemon.”
Key Features of Scare Support:
- Innovative blend of horror, comedy, and emotional depth
- Emphasis on practical effects and elaborate creature designs
- Exploration of themes such as self-acceptance and found family
“With Scare Support, we’re not just creating another monster show. We’re building a world where the D-List creatures usually relegated to dark corners take center stage, showing their vulnerabilities and forming unlikely bonds,” says creator and showrunner Cosmo Spada. “It’s a love letter to horror, wrapped in a message of acceptance and belonging.”
The crowdfunding campaign seeks to raise $20,000 to produce four more episodes of “Scare Support.” Funds will go towards:
- Creating high-quality practical effects and creature designs
- Securing filming locations that capture the eerie yet inviting atmosphere of the show
- Compensating the talented cast and crew
The Scare Support pilot episode is available for viewing on the campaign page, giving potential backers a taste of the series’ unique flavor.
