SUPERMAN MEETS MICHAEL MYERS: METROCON TAKES OVER SFU THIS WEEKEND
Brandon Routh and Tyler Mane headline three days of horror, sci-fi, cosplay and pop culture at one of Hollywood North’s most recognizable filming locations

Superman is coming to Burnaby — and so is Michael Myers.
Superman Returns star Brandon Routh and Tyler Mane, who portrayed Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween II, headline MetroCon, taking over Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus October 16–18.
Part of the Burnaby Halloween Festival, MetroCon brings celebrity guests, cosplay, artists, vendors, panels, screenings, gaming and pop culture programming to Simon Fraser University’s Convocation Mall for three days.
And genre fans may recognize the location before they even arrive.
HOLLYWOOD NORTH MEETS METROCON
SFU’s distinctive architecture has appeared in an extraordinary collection of genre productions, including The X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Smallville, Arrow, The Flash, Underworld: Awakening, The Day the Earth Stood Still and The 6th Day.
Convocation Mall itself has appeared in Underworld: Awakening and The Day the Earth Stood Still, giving MetroCon attendees the opportunity to celebrate film and television in a location where some of it was actually made.
FROM SUPERMAN TO MICHAEL MYERS
Routh leads the guest lineup after portraying Superman/Clark Kent in Superman Returns and Ray Palmer/The Atom in Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. He is also known to cult-film fans as Todd Ingram in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Mane brings serious horror credentials as Michael Myers, along with his role as Sabretooth in X-Men.
They are joined by Emily Perkins (Ginger Snaps, IT, Supernatural); Zach Galligan (Gremlins, Gremlins 2); Jennifer Rubin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors); Ken Sagoes (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 & 4); Kelli Maroney(Night of the Comet, Chopping Mall); James Pax (Big Trouble in Little China); Dan Payne (The Cabin in the Woods, Watchmen, Stargate SG-1, Descendants); Michael Coleman (Once Upon a Time, Hello Kitty: Super Style!); Alex Zahara(Final Destination Bloodlines, Horns, Stargate SG-1); and Canadian film personality and creator Tanner Zipchen.
COSPLAY SATURDAY — BIG TROUBLE SUNDAY
Saturday puts cosplay centre stage with the MetroCon Cosplay Contest, celebrating costumes, craftsmanship and characters from across comics, anime, horror, gaming, film and television against the distinctive backdrop of SFU.
On Sunday, MetroCon celebrates the 40th anniversary of John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China with a special screening featuring James Pax, who played Lightning, one of the legendary Three Storms.
PART OF THE BURNABY HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL
MetroCon is part of the Burnaby Halloween Festival, Tourism Burnaby’s city-wide celebration of Halloween experiences, entertainment, attractions and events.
With Michael Myers himself coming to Burnaby Mountain alongside stars of Ginger Snaps, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Gremlins, The Cabin in the Woods and more, MetroCon adds a major horror and pop-culture destination to Burnaby’s Halloween season.
SPECIAL STUDENT PRICING
With MetroCon taking place directly at SFU, student single-day admission is just $22, with student weekend passes available for $46.
